After using a couple of other learning aids and some Utube, John McSherry’s courses were recommended to me by the maker of my Low D, Colin Goldie. So, I gave them a try and my playing has improved more in the past 3 months than in the entire year before. They teach me and challenge me and there’s just the right amount of fun! I highly recommend the John McSherry Courses!!!

I’m playing pipes for 8 years and I’m a self taught player. With all John’s courses, there are tips and techniques for playing the tunes with real swing and now I’m able to use this and make my tunes more groovy. It’s a clear, progressive step by step method. I would highly recommend these courses by John McSherry for anyone who is serious about whistle playing/uilleann piping. Extremely well presented and methodical... It's all about getting into the rhythm and groove of playing and contains many useful exercises and demonstrations of ornamentation... Can't recommend enough as a resource and you'll see how much good focussed practice can do for your playing! If someone said to you Cristiano Ronaldo was giving football lessons you'd jump at the thought! Well - this is a golden opportunity to learn from a true Master of his craft... Get on it folks

I’ve really enjoyed my lessons with Brendan, he is an excellent teacher with a real sense of fun. All aspects of trad flute playing have been taught in an understandable way with fun exercises for practice, and I’ve learnt many great tunes from Brendan along the way.

I first started learning the Irish flute under Brendan approximately 6 years ago. I came to Brendan with a history of playing the fife but i had no idea of the work required to reach a competent level. Brendan showed a level of patience that all good teachers have for their students. Over the first year or two we focused on the three T's but always learning a tune or two at the same time. Later Brendan helped me develop a style of my own. Brendan has an amazing way of making you feel comfortable while playing a tune with him always ready with a compliment or constructive feedback. After 6 years I still look forward to lessons and always come away with a better understanding of the instrument and the music.

Hi John, I want to thank you for these last six months. These lessons are the best thing which happened in the Uilleann pipes world for a long long time. There is no more excuse even for us the isolated ones. Truly an excellent job you did. Just the right mix of discipline, musicality and great approach of a true master. Thanks again.

For me, having Brendan Mulholland as a flute teacher has helped immensely! Not only have the insights into tone, timing and technique really helped me develop as a flute player, but it has also helped me grow in my insight and ability to add some variation when playing a tune. I started learning, teaching myself uilleann pipes back in 2008 at the age of 58! At that time there was little help available, other than the usual text books and sporadic video tutorials from the likes of NPU. John’s video tutorial classes are now a welcome addition to my attempts to improve my piping. The videos are very well presented .The technology used allows for slowing down of the video content, aiding the focus on finger movement. And since the video classes are available 24/7, you can repeat and repeat the lessons and exercises at will aiding the whole teaching process. I would strongly recommend Johns video classes to any piper wishing to make progress and improve their piping. John is very approachable as well and I am very grateful for his efforts in helping me personally with my piping.

Brendan Mulholland is a fantastic, creative, rhythmic, and technically impeccable player. And he has a wonderful, easy, and approachable way of sharing his wisdom. Brendan has researched and finessed his teaching approach. He will give you techniques, exercises and practice runs that will help you get your fingers nimble, build muscle memory, gain precision and lose all fear of the unknown :) Seriously. He will also explain the ‘why’ and ‘where it came from’ and how he learned it. On top of all that he’s a lovely guy who so obviously loves to share his love of the music and his incredible skills on the flute. I recommend a run on the Mulholland train for all flute players of any level.

Each tutorial brings a concrete and pedagogical approach to the tunes, enlightening on their particularities and allowing everyone to follow his/her own rhythm in the progression. There is a perfect balance between the decomposition of the melodic phrases and the demonstration of their technical aspects, also revealing the specific style of each dance – through ornamentations, rhythms and ludic exercises. So that each month, the motivation gets higher and higher, never fading after the course. All the explanations are very clear, even for non-native English speakers. Virtual and real learning at the same time!

I have found the Uilleann Pipes Course electrifyingly good. There’s so much to learn and John’s teaching is the best I’ve come across for detail and the attention to getting the technique right before moving on to the next tune. I’ve also found much to learn and enjoy by just listening to and watching John’s superb playing.

Self taught myself on the whistle but wasn't learning my rolls, cuts and general ornamentation. I signed up for John McSherry's whistle course and have to say, it has brought my playing on massively - very easy to follow and learning tunes along the way. I would highly recommend this course for any whistle players wanting to improve their playing and no better man to be teaching it!

I'd been playing whistle for about 9 months when i started the course. John’s course helped me to realise where i needed to improve my playing and how to do it. The exercises I learned helped me become much more familiar with the whistle and with rhythm. And they helped me make my ornaments much clearer and and snappier. I really enjoyed learning the tunes, and watching John’s exhibition videos. As John says, “it’s all about the groove!
